Needle Size & Designation

Recommended Posts

Could someone please explain the correct system and sizing designations for needles compatible with the Millie? Are there multiple systems that translate to the same thing? Also is there a need for titanium? What exactly does multi-directional mean? There seem to be some price variations between different brands - what does price reflect - quality or quantity of product manufactured? Is there a needle that should work on this machine but for whatever reason you have found to be less than desireable? What do those of you who use them find works with embellishing threads? Metallics? Heavier threads like Jeans thread? Do any of you ever use ball-point needles? What do you use for quilting on polyester fleece? Is using a larger sized needle the only way to tame batiks and closely woven fabrics?

Are all of you frequent posters busily quilting your "Holiday Deadline" orders? This board has been so quiet lately.....seems to have had rigor mortis set in!

Hi, I think you should probably use the needles that come with it. You can use a 3.5 4.0 (which they are all timmed to)and a 4.5 for jean thread you could go to 5.0 but you may have to make sure the timming is o.k.. I have had lots of calls with troubles and it ending up to be a bad needle. The techs. here have tried lots of different needles,

the singer industrial needles are the best for our machines. You truely don't need all those fancy different needles.
