coats
I would appreciate any information about overhead wiring for my longarm. My husband is doing the electrical work for my studio and I am wondering if overhead wiring is worth addressing. Thanks, Joan
Betty
I have an electrical outlet on the ceiling. Perfect to have your machine cord UP. I also have a drapery type rod (the clips rides inside the slot on wheels) have one clip that holds the cord up and slides along the rail on the ceiling to let me move and stays out of my way. I had used a machine with the cord on the ground and it got in the way and was heavy enough to cause dragging. So if you have the chance to build the room to your need, put an outlet on the ceiling. coats
Thank you , Betty! If my table has a light bar , will your method still work? Could you please post a picture of the drapery rod attachment you are using? Joan
blair8904
Joan, have you checked out some type of electrical festoon? That's what I hope to find when I get to that point in my new studio.
Betty
I've never posted a picture before but I'll give it a shot tomorrow. I've been meaning to learn this. We can only hope.
newellyn
I have machine lighting and overhead wiring. I have an outlet in the ceiling and used a cable type curtain hanger from IKEA. It has hooks that the wire hangs on that move easily across the wire. Here are some pics. They are also on page 4 of my webshots studio folder. Betty
Looks like only one didn't make it...Not bad for a rookie. Well, now all I need is someone to take a good picture of me for an Avatar...gee...that could be awhile.

I'm gonna try it.......if my hair looks nice!:P Lynda, that is what my DH wants to do with my wiring!! Love it! I keep tripping over the cord and pulling the plug out of the surge thingy....Just enough so "out go the lights"!!

I spent many hours investigating overhead wiring and still had so many questions. I decided to try posting on this forum (first time!) . WOW... thanks to all for responding. The pictures really helped. I "get it" now!!!! Not really sure what an electrical festoon is though. I'd better check that out. Joan
LinneaMarie
From the web: Festoon cable is flat cable designed for power and control applications of crane bridges and gantries, hoists, monorail systems, traveling electrified equipment and other mobile equipment utilizing a cantenary system for cable installation.
