Quilting Inquiry....

Recommended Posts

Hey Everyone

I've been thinking about taking up quilting, and I was wondering if anyone could suggest any books, sites, ect. that would be helpful for starters. I came across this really interesting craft site for young adults (like myself) that got my creative wheels turning: http://www.makeitu.com/ . If anyone can suggest any sources like this site---that's geared towards a younger audience--- I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks much!

Hi sheilao,

Two books that are really good to start with are

Quilting Basics by Celia Eddy

Learn to Machine Quilt by Sharon Chambers

Another book that is really resourceful, loaded with suggestions from quilters all over the country is

Encyclodedia of 63 Quilt Patterns and Designs by the Editors of FC&A Craft Publishing.

Try ebay or Crafters Choice.

Hope this helps you to get started

Sheilao,

Oh to see younger ladies interested in quilting, sewing, etc. I think one thing you can do, no matter the publication, is make it your own. If you are making a quit, don't select the fabric recommended, select fabrics you like. When you do this, it is so creative, then you don't have all these "cookie cutter" type quilts. Also, EQ5 would be a terrific way to make it your own. With EQ5 you can design your own patterns, audition fabrics you like, and who knows, you might be writing the next pattern book. Please stay interested in quilting, we need to keep this art going for generations to come.

Hi Sheila - just a warning -- quilting can be so addicting! But it is a wonderful thing, so I hope you will enjoy it. Try http://www.alexandersonquilts.com Alex is great for teaching quilters. If you get HGTV, you can see reruns of her show, Simply Quilts, which was a great help to me along the way. There are also some synopses of the shows on the HGTV website: http://www.hgtv.com/hgtv/shows_qlt/

Welcome to the fabulous world of quilting! So many fabrics, so many patterns, sew many quilts!

Linda
