Need some creative ideas

Hi Everyone:

This is the first picture I am posting for ideas. It is the Bear Paw Snuggler from the book Quilting the Lodge Look by Debbie Field. It is for a favourite young man in my daughter's life, so I want a masquiline look to the quilting. No feathers please, I am doing everything freehand or with rulers, and don't have feather's mastered yet!

I was thinking some cross hatching in the borders around the 4 square or a curved pattern of some type to just soften the strong lines. I could echo all the triangles, or fill the outside of the 'paw' but don't know what to do in the large centre of the 'paw'.

Thanks in advance for all the creativity! I will post pictures when it is done.
