ffq-lar
I've read this a couple of times and figured you are probably talking about a "Square-in-a-Square" pattern? Is that right? Posting a picture or linking to the pattern helps with the flow of ideas. If the blocks are small-ish, an overall design with a blending thread is always nice. If you want to quilt the blocks, use light thread for the lights and dark thread for the darks. Stitch CC's in the triangles--which will give you a circle surrounding the center square. You can leave the center squares un-quilted if they are small, or stitch a spiral or CC's if they are larger. CC's in the center squares would be my choice, giving you even density across the top and the back will be so pretty! Quiltmaker has a freebie section and I found yesterday an S-in-a-S layout offered to download and print--for coloring to help with fabric placement. If you download and print that page, you can doodle all kinds if potential designs on it. I'll see if I can find a link.
ffq-lar
Go to www.quiltmaker.com Click on freebies Click on line drawings. On the first page, click on the words "Blue Romance line drawings", which is a square-in-a-square quilt. The two blue illustrations on the left--click on the line drawing one and you will be able to download a PDF of the layout.
Hockeyrabbit
Yes, square in square or "boxed squares" is the design of the top..I was thinking maybe just swirls all over?? Give me some thoughts about that? JC
ffq-lar
Swirls all over would be a great quilting design for this pattern.
