sewingupastorm Posted August 28, 2007 Report Posted August 28, 2007 I was aproached last night at my guild by a handquilter that would like to have her quilt basted for handquilting. I told her I would be happy to do it and that she should let me know when she has it ready. I would like to hear from any of you that do this what you charge and how you do yours. I have a good idea of how I would do it but would like to see how the rest of the longarm world handles this as I know there must be some of you that offer this for your customers. Thanks!
quiltingnanny Posted August 28, 2007 Report Posted August 28, 2007 I do this fairly often for a customer. I have a basting stitch on my machine and go across the quilt about 6 inches apart. If the quilt is a lap or smaller I charge $25 [ minium charge ] or $35 for larger. quilts. Quick money ! Glenda
sewingupastorm Posted August 29, 2007 Author Report Posted August 29, 2007 Thank you for the reply. I spoke with her last night and it is about a lap size so I quoted her the 25 price and she seemed happy. She is going to call me when she gets the backing pieced. Anybody else have a techinque on how they baste I would love to hear about it.
BethDurand Posted August 29, 2007 Report Posted August 29, 2007 I quilt for handquilters, including myself. I chargee $.007 per square inch with a minimum charge of $30. I put my girl in manual mode, a longer stitch length, like about 1/2 of normal for quilting. Then I just do a large meander over the whole thing. I try to use a thread that contrasts well with the quilt top, to make it easier to remove, and also something that I don't think I'll be wanting to use again. Funky colors, you know. Hope that helps. Beth
