quiltaholi_518
Cathy said- how about quilting it from the back and do a meander from butterfly to butterfly, and quilt around the butterfly motifs? So, pray tell, how would you load a quilt to quilt from the back? I have done this often on my DSM, but cannot imagine how it would work on the L/A. I am thinking you would have to sew extra "borders" of muslin so you could get to the edge??? And then, you would still want the backing (now on top) a bit smaller??? DO TELL!!!!! Myrna Ficken
Caron, You load the quilt top onto the backing rolers wrong side up just like you backing. Load your backing as is it were the top. Myrna
BarbWetzel
Sounds pretty easy.. Barb
quiltaholi_518
But, how would you get all the way to the edge if you are holding the top by zippers or leaders and then clamps on the side? I am feeling dense here, but I can't imagine unless you add something to the top so it overlaps the backing which is now on top. Am I making sense??? Catherine50
I've actually never done it, but I think what I would do is add some muslin, or something to extend the size of the top to the same size as the backing, so that they are both tensioned the same in the side clamps. I would also mark down the sides of the backing fabric, either with basting stitches, or chalk where the sides of the quilt top are. I would use these marks as my guide for where the stitching would start and stop. Does this make sense?
