bobbins, steel or aluminum?

I use both aluminum and metal. My Millie likes both. I have bobbin genies on hand but seldom use them. I did need them on the last quilt since my bobbin thread kept breaking. After trying all regular solutions I put in a bobbin genie and had no more issues. A couple of people noted that they understood the check spring should be removed from the bobbin case when using the bobbin genie but I didn't remove mine and that little genie made a world of difference anyway. I took it out when I started the batik quilt I'm working on now and am having no problems with thread breaking so I'm thinking the fabric on that last QOV made my bobbin thread grouchy which ended up making ME a little grouchy too!
