DebsQuiltArt
Hello everyone. Thought I would share with you some pics of some "Basting Only" quilts. This client will hand stitch these beauties. I have done a few for her before and she doesn't mind paying at all for this prep service. She stitches in a hoop. The first one I used brownish thread and the 2nd I used red. I use tension 9 on my Millie, without stitch regulation. I stitch down the top and edges, then I begin. I pull my machine along about 4-6", then go up the same, then across again and finally down. Repeat across the whole row. Then I repeat this process, the opposite way back. It is important to go slow and stitch one row, from the right to left, then the next row, left to right. This prevents any shifting of fabric. Hope you can see the pattern. It is kinda relaxing to do, and No Frogging! The stitches hold well, but come out easily. I charged my minimum charge of $50 per quilt, or.005 per inch, whichever is greater. Generally, it takes about 2 hours to do do this basting stitch.

Georgene
Thank you so much for sharing this method and your prices. I haven't really found anyone to ask locally about how to charge for this service. So I greatly appreciate your thoughfulness to present something useful to us. LTL
That's the best method of basting I've seen. The over/up/over/down method gives the grid without turning. Brilliant.
