Hi Bev,


The advantage to tweaking the needle eye slightly to the left comes into play when a person might have stitches that appear slightly twisted, or seem to be slightly "zig-zagged". When you turn the eye that direction, it opens up the back of the needle (the scarf) a bit more so that the hook point can catch the complete top thread loop behind the needle to prevent shredding or breaking.
