For many years, I have used a tablet laptop to draw right on the monitor screen with my special stylist pen. I use Photoshop CS4, but Elements is what I suggest for students to get. I also own a large size Professional Wacom tablet, which is a plug-in peripheral you can use with any computer (desktop or laptop). This is how I design most of my quilts I get in the studio. My clients love it, and I also teach this in some of my classes, too. Let me try to dig up an example where I have used this to design a quilt top for a client or a student.
