PeggyB
I want to make some small table toppers or wallhangings, but I want enough space to really show the quilting. I can do various sizes. I have a Christmas swap coming up and the size is 24 - 30 inches. My thought is to make up a couple and try some of my stencils etc. I'll take the best one to the swap. I am just drawing a blank on blocks. I don't usually applique but maybe I could for this...I guess in my pre Millie days I focused on patterns without out much blank spots. Quilting Heidi
Peggy why don't you just make a wholecloth and design it that way? That would give you lots of room to play. The other option is to make a large star block or really any block that looks pretty when made large. Carpenter stars are very quick and you can easily make it with hst fast. I have a pattern if you want it.
ffq-lar
I was going to say exactly what Heidi said--wholecloth with a subtle pattern and a Christmas-y binding. For a 30" square, use your favorite block--whether a churndash, sawtooth star, Ohio star, even a nine patch--and make one large block. With the 30" limit, a nine patch would have at least 9" size individual blocks. That's plenty of room for lots of pretty quilting. No border necessary. And a great gift idea! PeggyB
thanks I hope to work on one this weekend. I hadn't considered whole cloth. I do have a carpenter's star pattern and I like the idea of stars in the center.
