Taking care of the canvas
Quilting Heidi replied to connieb's topic in Maintenance Questions (cleaning rails included)
I've had my machine since 2007 and I've never changed them. I usually try to keep them straight so after each quilt I make sure they are straight again. If they get out of whack I pin them together, actually I have zippers so I zip them together, and roll back and forth until they are straight. Only one time did I have to square them up again by creating new squared ends. -
Nice space and I'm really glad you are back to quilting!

Jim I have found the same results with not hitting the hook, also happened to me a lot. I thought I was the only one this happened to. I did have it happen when I was stitching in the center of my start quilt but I had a lot of layers coming together. I just had to go slower. -

Long arm needles

Wow Jim you went to town! I heard that many that went with the Groz-Beckert needles had to retime from the Singer needles (I think the yellow packs were Singer). I never made the switch to Groz so never retimed so maybe that is why I didn't have to deal with that. My needle doesn't make any noise that is a good sign :-). Keep us posted. -

Great background fills. I think I would have been at a loss as to how to quilt this one. You did a great job. -

Metro Sigma Thread Sale

I use a lot of Metro and I love it. I never have any breakage issues. I like that it is thinner but gives just a little shine. My customers seem to like it too. -

Oh and I forgot to add I have heard great feedback on using it for piecing, just not quilting. -

Linda I haven't heard of one person that was happy with this set-up. I'd suggest she keep waiting until a better machine comes up. -
I forgot to add that you can use the mineral oil on lots of things, not just thread to extend the live and renew it. I use it on wicker baskets and wood as well. Of course I would not oil my machine if the manufacturer tells you not to but I'm just lubing the thread, not oiling the machine so the difference is that my machine stitches better.
