moogiequilter
I can't figure out how to slow the machine down so that I can baste a quilt and get really large stitches. Right now I'm just moving the head and using needle up and down to do it. IS there a better way?? Any and all suggestions are much appreciated. Hollyrw
When I've done this I've used a water soluble thread on the top and a long stitch length with my stitch regulator. The stitch length isn't quite so important with the water soluble thread because it will simply wash out in the end.
moogiequilter
OOh Holly I hadn't thought of that one at all. Do you have any issues with the soluble gumming up your tension discs?
Hollyrw
I suppose if you're in a very humid climate you could have an issue but it's never been a problem for me. The thread is a little on the delicate side so I loosen my top tension. Since it's all going to wash out anyway, pokies don't really matter. Janette
you can achieve a larger stitch by running it in manual mode slow, and moving the machine fairly quickly. Experiment with your settings on some scrap fabric first.
Dar
Holly, I like the idea of washaway thread in the top too. My concern would be the expense of the thread. I understand it is pretty pricey and it would use quilte a bit on a large quilt. How do you compensate for the cost? In my area we charge about $25 to baste a medium to large quilt and some think that is too high. Just wondering. Dar
quiltjunkie
I load the quilt, put on the channel lock and run in manual mode on the lower stitch setting and the faster you move the machine the larger your stitch. I could baste quilts all day long... so easy.. I do take off and re pin to do the opposite direction. I find that faster and easier than trying to do all those vertical rows.
