Setting up a class

Recommended Posts

Although our beloved APQS machines are made right here in Iowa, affordable classes are few and far between in the rural areas.

A group of friends have talked about trying to get some set up, but we have lots of questions. One of our first hurdles is where, none of us really has room in our studios for 6-8 people to spend the day comfortably. Any one out there with any experience or suggestions.

Most of us just quilt for ourselves with some charity work thrown in so we aren't that interested in the "business" of quilting, just want to add to our own skill sets.

Shoot for a one-day get together with one member hosting the number of people she is comfortable with in her space. Have everyone bring a sack lunch so the host has no extra duties. You can do structured classes with a set time limit and each person sharing one technique and then hands-on practice for the members. A limit of about 90 minutes for each technique will allow all to try it out without rushing. Two teachers in the morning, lunch, and two in the afternoon will make for a long but information-filled day--without so much being shared that you can't remember it all. Everyone should have a notebook and drawing paper. Then a discussion afterwards with chocolate would be heavenly! This would work with a group of 6-8 and if anyone doesn't feel comfortable with their skills, they can share a pattern or book--or ask for design examples for a UFO. Can I come?:D
