caddyhomes
I just did a meandering flower and curlicue pattern, and it's totalling lost on the dark print backing. How disappointing! Or is that just how some turn out? The pieced top is really cute with the pattern, but the backing.. Ah.. Please advise.
witha'K'quilting
yep...that happens. i have a quilt top i am putting on today and the backing is a solid color. What a shame since I am only doing a large stipple meander and some crosshatching! See...it can be disappointing in this circumstance too.
ffq-lar
Dark printed backers don't show the quilting--as you found out. To help make the back stitching more noticeable, use a bobbin thread a couple of shades lighter that you normally would to match the top thread. If you are stitching on top with blue or red, try a lavender in the bobbin. Yellow or brown--a tawny dark gold. Purple or black on top--burgundy in the bobbin. Or use a variegated like Rainbows or the new So Fine in the bobbin--as long as the colors are compatible with the top thread. Then you'll have lots of "pretty" showing on the back! Especially effective with a panto or overall design.
