bobbi
I need an answer to this question by tonight for my guild! I have a quick question on wholecloths that was asked of me today... When making a whole cloth, does the binding have to be of the same material as the whole cloth in order for it to qualify as a whole cloth in a show? Thanks so much for your help! ffq-lar
Just to be on the safe side, I'll say yes--the same material should be used for the binding. Better to have it that way than be denied entry in a show. Also, if you can't find the same fabric and another is so close that you can't tell the difference, probably no one else could tell either. Maybe check the qualifications for a wholecloth on a big-show site, like Houston or Paducah.

bobbi
After much investigating, the answer is actually in each show's category description. Talked to a quilting judge, she also said it can be at the discretion of the judge. So Yes, I would probably bind it in the same fabric... Just sayin'! Quilting Heidi
I always bind in the same fabric. Most descriptions that I recall state that the binding is included in the "same fabric" rule.
