Resilient Quilter
Hi! This is my very first post. have had my used ultimate I for 4 years, never a whimper out of her. Today I am hearing "swishy sounds" for the first time out of my motor, I am doing a pantograph so am at the back of the machine. Do not recall hearing this noise before. Does this mean my brushes are going in my motor? thanks!
DawnCavanaugh
Hi! I would check the motor brushes--if they are shorter than 3/8" it's time to change them. Let us know if you need instructions on how to do it
Resilient Quilter
tried to call apqs a little while ago - 5:15 - only got answering machines. Everyone must be gone for the day. would like to order brushes to have them here so if they do need changing I am ahead of the game. what are the hours to get ahold of the order department? Resilient Quilter
BTW Dawn, thank you for responding so quickly! I took the mantenence class at Sue Schmeiden's place a couple of years ago, but a refresher would be nice on changing the brushes, thank you for offering the help! kennan100
Resilient, Do you subscribe to Unlimited Possiblites Magazine for Longarm Quilters? They have articles every month on some type of maintenance issue, each one is like a lesson at home and are generic, so they could adapt to almost any machine. The lesson this month is the motor brushes, what they look like, where they are, and what they should not look like. Timely message, huh? I know APQS will be here to help, but you might look at getting the magazine.
