Laser light in front

Recommended Posts

Hi

I have Lucey and I want to move the laser light to the front of the machine.

The post on need to put it on so that it shines on the quilt is too short.

Does anyone know of a extension to use to have it taller.

I am not a free motion quilter I need lines to follow, although I am

practicing every day to get better.

The classes at MQS were awesome, I learnt so much. I am in Iowa so

it was within driving distance, it was great to have it in Iowa.

I rarely use my laser at the front, but I don't have it shine on the quilt. I have a design drawn on paper and placed on a surface that hangs over my take up roller and the quilt roller. The laser traces the pattern which then stitches out on the quilt, like using a panto.

Lizbeth - I have a panto cam.  The laser light is still on the back, but I'm watching it from the front via a camera.  For me, it's the best way to go .  no moving back and forth from front to back - and once you get used to the camera piece, it's the absolute best.  I couldn't do pantos any other way.

Good morning!  I also do not shine the light on the quilt.  I made a tray that goes across the leveler bar and the quilt top bar and put the motif on that with a piece of plexiglas over the top to hold it in place.  Then I put the needle down where I want it, adjust the laser light and off I go.  Works really well.  One thing I learned from have a computerized system on my prior machine is that the more you do a motif, the more it imprints on your brain and pretty soon, you can actually do them freehand.  Nice, eh?  I also found out something really exciting yesterday thanks to Jessica Schick.  I had thousands of dollars worth of patterns for my CQ (which is now out of business) and no use for them. She had me download a free software that can open  the patterns and I can simply print them out in size I need for the block and then put it on my cool little tray , use the front laser and voila! a new block pattern.  I am so excited.  Opens up a gazillion possiblities.  I do not like being at the back of my machine.  I don't feel like I have good control on what is going on.  Too many times I get to the end of an intricate row and find out I broke a thread way back.  Or I go off the edge and the fabric catches. Or or or...I just do not like it.
