Front Porch Quilting
I did a convergence quilt and am thinking of using superior metallic thread on it. What do I need to know before hand so I can save some of my hair? Only worked with Metallic on my embroidery machine not on my Millie, Mollie. Anyone quilt a convergence and what did you do on it? Help please!
chickenscratch
Hi Roxanne. I haven't quilted a convergence quilt, but I have used metallic thread. Here's what I had to do. Loosen top tension and bottom tension. I used metallic top and bottom and that worked. I have heard of others using cotton on bottom and metallic on top, but haven't tried that. I also had to use a 4.0 needle and go SLOW. Hope this helps you some. My machine is an Ultimate II from about a million years ago.
Front Porch Quilting
Thank you do you know if it will give me trouble going through so many seams with Metallic?
sspingler
I do the same as Teresa but use Arc gold in the bobbin.
Quilting Heidi
No problems using metallic from superior. I used it on one of the first things I quilted. I only went through 2 holes on the pigtail before the tension disk and loosened my tension. Other than that no problems.
quiltmonkey
Adding to the info you have recieved, sometimes it helps to dab a few beads of Sewer's Aid on the cone or spool to help it run through the needle. Try a larger needle (4.0 or 4.5) if you have breaking of the thread. I've even successfully used Hologram and Sliver without problems in the longarm. I just run Monopoly through the needle at the same time to give this thin thread a little support. Works good.
AnnHenry
I used Superior Metallic on top and Bottom Line in the bobbin on my very first attempt with metallic, and I was amazed that I had not one problem.
