Quilting Heidi
Sharyn, This is because of needle flex. Going in different directions will affect your tension. Try a bigger needle and see if that helps. Also slow down a little. I would loosen my bobbin thread a little and tighten the top and see if you can get it better than it is. belquilt
Heidi is exactly right. Once you get the combination to your likeing, write it down. Its like a recipe!
quilted charm
I've been having the same problem. When I adjust the tension a little tighter, I get loops, and a little looser and I get straight thread on top, with bottom thread loops showing. I never had the problem till trying to quilt on a quilt that has steam a seam applique on it. I tried going slow, but no change, have a size 4 needle which I changed thinking that might be the problem. any other ideas?
JustSewSimple
I am surely not an expert but......adjust your bobbin FIRST always. When your bobbin is loose enough, then play with your top thread until you get it like you want. Write down the thread you are running in the bobbin and keep that bobbin case for that thread. when you change bobbin threads, change cases and adjust until you get it like you want. I keep my bobbin cases in a little clear bag marked for the thread it runs. It saves me a ton of headaches.
