Primitive1
I have been asked to quilt a silk quilt, the customer wants to use a varigated Isacord thread. Does anyone have any helpful advice on quilting on silk, should I use a smaller needle? I usually use 4.0 on most things... I am very nervous and want it to look great! ffq-lar
I have quilted on silk. I used a 3.5 needle and a thin thread--BottomLine, So Fine and also Monolon. Match the needle size to the thread size. Needle holes didn't seem to be a problem. You will be able to tell right away if the Isacord is too thick for the silk--especially a variegated color. I guess is depends on what you want to show--the stitches or the texture. Have a great time--nothing to be afraid of with silk.
juliagraves
When I sewed silk clothing on my domestic machine, I used a ball point needle to try and avoid cutting the silk threads or pulling the threads. Does anyone make a ballpoint needle for a longarm? Julia
RoseCity Quilter
I posted a photo of my silk a couple of days ago. Used a size 4.0 and Rainbow thread and it felt just like quilting cotton. No problems what so ever. Nothing to be afraid of....
Butterfly
I used SoFine with a 3.5 needle when I did a silk quilt. It turned out great. Don't worry. You'll love it. I remember being very nervous, but soon discovered there was nothing to be nervous about. Not only that, the quilting texture looks so beautiful on a silk quilt.
