For me the answer is that depends. Are you using one color to stabilize? If so then I would do that color first and stabilize the whole thing. Where there isn't enough stabilization I would pin the snot out it. Then go back and do the colors. If you are going to use different colors to stabilize then I would change the thread with each pass as much as possible. Good luck. It is going to be a beauty!

I'm working on one right now where the threads are different weights and so I decided to do all one color first and then go back and do the next color due to having to change the bobbin and top tensions back and forth. I hope what you're doing works for you. In my case, the color I started with pretty much stablized the quilt.

Please post pictures when you're done. I terry twisted in the star part of my mom's but couldn't decide what to do in the large white areas so I took it off to get caught up on customer quilts.
