JustSewSimple
I just discovered one cause of pokies. I had Hobbs, 20/80 and cotton backing. I had poly in the bobbin and COTTON in the needle. Pokies!!! I changed the needle thread to Poly and no pokies! You might try this and see if it works for you. AnitaSews
Hi Sylvia, I'm no expert by a long shot! But one of the things that I first learned in sewing is always use the same thread in your bobbin as your needle. I experienced them pokies first hand when I started sewing in Feb. I also learned to test my stitches on the same material that you are going to use. Otherwise if testing on another material other than what your making then you'll end up messing up your project. Trial and error! So don't feel like the Lone Ranger! And I'm sure it will turn out beautiful!
yankiequilter
Thanks for sharing your experience, Sylvia. Very interesting. I use Hobbs 80/20 a lot and haven't had a problem, yet, but maybe I've just been lucky with the thread combo. I have a lot of Superior King Tut on hand that I'd like to use up so will keep this in mind.
Quilting Heidi
IF you looked at that cotton thread under a microscope I'd bet you wouldn't see a smooth surface. It is this "roughness" that grabs a hold of the batting. Remember cotton clings best to cotton. Poly thread is usually much smother, although not all poly's are. Changing thread is always a good idea.
