a finish and a ribbon raw edge applique

Recommended Posts

I made this design from a picture of a trolley light in the garden district of New Orleans. I did the original raw edge applique in a David Walker workshop in 2003 http://davidwalker.us/Pages/Q_QUILTS_HOME.html

I liked it a lot, but I didn't know how to finish it. I completed it this year for my guilds show. It won a ribbon but there were only two quilts in the category. Still I like it. I am glad I completed it.

I really like your design, and also the way you quilted it.

I took a workshop from David Walker some years ago. I loved the idea he taught that when you cut out a design to add to your work, if you cut carefully the remainder (the negative) is what he calls "a gift". And sure enough, if you save those gifts, eventually you will make a quilt using them. The red design on your quilt reminded me, because it might have been a gift.
