Sams Mom
I have a customer that wants to see the difference (visually) between pre-shrinking an 80/20 batt (no brand specified) vs. not pre-shrinking. She washes her fabrics and to this point has always used poly batts like Mtn Mist. Anyone around who can help me out? Donna
CindyT
I don't know that I can "help" you, but I have a customer that always prewashes her Hobbs 80/20 batting before she gives it to me to quilt. It really gives it nice definition after it's quilted for some reason.
Quilting Heidi
Donna I have a samle that 1/2 was washed and 1/2 wasn't washed. I could try to take a picture of it to see if that is enough of a visual for her.
ffq-lar
See what the package says. If it says 3% shrinkage, the batting will possibly shrink 3 inches on a 100" piece. This is just the batting. When it's quilted, the shrinkage will crinkle the fabric and the combo of the quilting and laundering may draw it up 3 inches. I think the shrinkage if 80/20 is less because of the 20% poly. If she wants a visual, have her cut a 20" square of batting and wash it (carefully) as she would wash the finished quilt. When she measures she will be able to calculate the true shrinkage. (Donna--nice to see you!)
