Bad grinding sound

In the back under the hood. I think I need to change out the motor brushes again. It has been about a year since I changed them. Luckily I have an extra. Perhaps I just need to order such and have them on hand. Wish me luck I am not real mechanical. And if this is not the fix then I am in trouble!

I've got several parts on hand just in case. Brushes, thread tension spring, needle screw, etc. I've had my machine for eight years though, and have not had to change the brushes once.

I'm with Linda. I had an Intellistitch installed on my machine over a year ago. I do a good bit of quilting, and checked the brushes on my motor a few weeks ago. They looked new. I would expect a set to last many years. Now the Intellistitch has a Groshopp motor which seems to be the standard for regulated machines. I assume the APQS machines have them also. If they don't, maybe there's a difference in durability. Jim
