Bonnie in Ok
What do I need to be concerned with when I am quilting a quilt with trapunto in it?
Enchanted Quilting
You need to stay 1/4 inch or a little less from the trapunto itself, otherwise the background fill and the trapunto merge together. Have fun with the backgrounds which will enhance the trapunto. Good luck and post pictures when you are done!
Quilting Heidi
Take your time trimming out the trapunto. It is so much fun to see that design pop. Make sure you use dense fills in the background around the trapunto to really make it pop. I use washaway thread to stitch down the trapunto and use bottom line on the under side. It is so thin that it won't add bulk in the middle of the quilt.Match the thread color to the top. After I've trimmed the trapunto I stitch on the outside of the washaway thread. This makes sure that I don't have any batting that shows past the stitched line if I wasn't as careful trimming. Use a puffy batting for the trapunto work too.
