Anne from Guam
A customer asked if she could have a non stretchy velveteen as the back. Is this even worth loading? She said if it won't work just to use muslin. Does anyone have experience with velveteen as a back?
Zora
I guess it would depend on the fabric content of the velveteen, and whether it has been pre-shrunk and tested for colorfast. I don't see much difference in using this than using Minkee or some of the other alternative fabrics for quilt backing. I have seen some velveteen that is very heavy, like canvas or is very stiff. I don't know if that would cause problems or not. I would load the backing, then try a practice scrap on the edge to see how it looks on the back. It might be a tension nightmare, or it might just be gorgeous. The only thing you would be out is the time it took to load the backer if it doesn't work out. Anne from Guam
So I thought I would load the velveteen and see what happens. But I didn't have to because it was too short for the quilt top anyway! Shees!
