caddyhomes
Standing at the front of the machine, and when stitching toward me, tension is perfect. When moving the machine away from me, the top thread lies on the fabric - huge tension issue. What is causing the problem, and how do I fix it? Quilting Heidi
It is probably the needle flexing more going to the back. Not sure how you have your needle set but try turning the eye of the needles a little to 6:35 and see if that helps. The other option is to try a bigger needle. jimerickson
Caddy: Are you using a ruler? If so you may be pushing down on it too hard. If not, check the clearance between the machine and the quilt sandwich. It sounds like the thread is being pinched when you move the machine away from you, increasing the effective top thread tension. Heidi's idea of a larger needle might just help in such a situation. Good luck in your search. Jim
caddyhomes
Thank you for the responses. Tried it all, and more. This is a custom quilt project for a client, and I've got lots of back and forth and up and down going on so the needle flex made the most sense. I finally blamed the new needle I had put in, replaced it with another new one, and the problem is solved. The stitches are good in all directions. Bad needle was the problem. Ockham's Razor solves yet again! Charlotte
