jkw
basting for clients I have a customer that wants me to baste a needle turn Baltimore album quilt for her. I have a Millie with compuquilter. has anyone done this?
kbaumbusch
I did it once, I used a large chevron design with big stitches. I didn't charge as much as I usually do. They seemed to like it. You could also do straight lines or crosshatching but fairly large with big stitches so they can pull it out easily from underneath the hand quilting and not mess their threads up. jkw
Sorry I'm not sure how to use this chat. I don't know how to make my machine do a long stitch (1") other than manually using my needle up and down button while moving my machine in between. I hope there is a better way. I can't image the stress on my hand doing a 85" x 85" quilt. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
SueD
APQS machines don't have a basting stitch. You can hold the needle up/down button rather than clicking each time. You just need to make sure the needle is out of the fabric before you move the machine to the next position.
RunningThreads
For a long stitch you can also turn off the stitch regulator, turn the speed down and control the stitch length by how fast you move the machine. I doubt you can get your Millie to do one stitch per inch that way but you could probably get decent results around three stitches per inch. jkw
I appreciate all the suggestions. I tried both ways and I think they will both work. Thank you! dbams
