MarieBrewer
Is there an open hopping for the Millie? I saw one on an A-1 and I thought it would be a good idea.
judysmith
Hi Marie I think they are a good idea - have one on my domestic Bernina. It is much easier to keep site of where the needle path is. My only reservation on the longarm is where you are using a ruler or templates that might slip through the opening and break your needle, and set up all kinds of other problems. smorris
Hi Marie Judy is right it could be dangerous. A few years ago APQS experimented with different size "cut-outs" for the hopping foot. It seemed that the majority of people preferred the shape of the foot we have now. The hopping foot also holds the quilt sandwich flat all the way around the needle and, I wonder, if there was a full cut out if that might affect stitch quality with the fabric not being held down evenly, especially with puffier battings.
