AnnHenry
Now that I finally understand bobbin tension and my Towa gauge, I'm thinking of getting really daring and doing my next quilt with MonoPoly. It is multicolored, and no one color would work. It is a half-price/square inch practice quilt so I'm not about to do custom with a dozen thread changes. So my question is - Can I use MonoPoly in the top and bobbin both?
quiltmonkey
Yes you can. I have done it (SID) without problems. Make sure your tension on top & bottm are looser as this thread is very stretchy. I usually wind my monopoly bobbins using my DSM (Bernina)
Quilting Heidi
I just used monopoly on top with metallic in the bobbin...it worked perfectly. I did end up putting on a thread net though to keep the monopoly under control!
JoleneK
Okay its said there is no dumb questions but.... Is monopoly thread the same as clear or Transparent Nylon Quilting Thread?
Quilting Heidi
Jolene, There are different types of transparent thread and you have to be careful to find one that doesn't melt. The monopoly won't melt and is sold by Superior. It is also strong enough to quilt with it but still flexible enough to give a pretty stitch. AnnHenry
Jolene: There is no such thing as a dumb question, unless perhaps the unasked question. The MonoPoly (pronounced mono - poly, not pronounced Mo-nop-oly like the game) is a polyester thread, not to be confused with a nylon thread. The early nylon threads were like fishing line, but they are much improved now. The quilters here seem to prefer the MonoPoly over the nylon. Differing comments encouraged!
