connieb
as a newbie I have not yet done a panto in the body of the quilt and then freehand/customed the boarders. My sister wants a panto on the body of her double irish chain quilt but the seminole boarder done custom. I see what she wants and think it will look great. My concern, how do I make sure I don't quilt into the boarder with the panto and keep that edge looking clean.
jmcclannan
If you mark you panto at the edges and check each row before stitching you shouldn't have any trouble.
VickiNan
After I place the panto under the plastic protector and figure out where I need to start/stop - I mark the plastic with blue painter's tape.
Kueser
I use a dry erase marker on the plastic. Works great if you are working around a applique figure with curved lines also. Just be sure you clean the plastic before dragging the quilt across it when you're done.
calicokat
Because I can be a blonde at times (no offense to others intended, LOL) I sometimes put an object on the table too - my box of pins, a can of starch - just something to bump into as I'm going and remind me that I need to pay attention to where I want to stop. Also, if it is a panto that gives you two passes like "Maple Syrup" (first one you go Right to Left, then second row comes back Left to Right) - I can often SID slowly up to where I need to be for starting that second pass. That gives you one less start/stop.
