Dave-Jane
This is a really fantastic program Dave & I became involved in. Dave was asked to quilt a patriotic quilt. It is to be used as a back drop for a program at a military base in Afghanistan. They will record a military member, while sitting in a rocking chair ( with the quilt hanging behind), reading a book for their child. The CD and book will be mailed back home to their child, niece, nephew, etc. They have everything they need, except a continuous supply of books. So that is where we can help. Below is a link to Amazon.com that takes it to the "Wish List" for United through Reading. You may purchase the books and they will be mailed directly to Major Jenn Mahoney , in Afghanistan, who is spearheading this project. Most books are only around $5.00. I think this is just a great idea - the USO is paying for the CD's and books to be mailed the the kids. http://www.amazon.com/United-Through-Reading-Military-Program/wishlist/211F5UQSSSCRE/ref=cm_wl_search_2 I have also attached a picture of Jenn and Dave with the quilt when Jenn was home on leave. The quilt was pieced by her mothers quilt guild, St Alberts Guild in Sun Prairie, WI. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/4322288/quiltweb.jpg
Quilting Heidi
Jane & Dave this is such a wonderful idea. I know my kids would have loved to have a cd of their daddy reading to them when he was deployed. I'll need to go out and order some. Thanks for sharing. Pretty quilt by the way. JustSewSimple
I thought this was such a good idea until I passed it on to a group who collects books for children. Hope they come through for me.
blair8904
Jane and Dave. Thanks, so much, for sharing this. I know how much my grandchildren miss my son when he is deployed. This will be such a treat for the kids who get the books and CD. I'll order some today.

PoodleGirl
My husband will be deploying soon and they have this program where he is going. What a neat idea especially if you have little kids. Thanks for spreading awareness about this.
