Butterfly
I have just completed a customer quilt that has three mitered borders. The piecer did a nice job with the miters, but the quilt has dog ears anyway. I did my best to square it but there is still a half inch extra width on the outer edges of the quilt after quilting. My question.....Will blocking fix this? I'm thinking it will, but would like to know for sure. Jess
LadyLake
I think a half inch is do-able for blocking and bringing in to square. I pin the quilt on my design wall, so the edges are square, then dampen it and massage the quilt borders/ etc. so they are where they should be, then let dry overnight. ffq-lar
When laid flat for blocking on protected carpet or foam board, she can use her largest acrylic rulers to square it up. Tell her to straighten each seam, not just the outside edge. Measure and pin from the center out after the quilt is saturated. Pushing and prodding will work well--then spray with sizing or starch and steam a bit to get it all set. Let dry. It should be good to go.

Quilting Heidi
Jess I'll bet the blocking would fix 1/2".
Guest Linda S
It will probably fix the 1/2", but if you wash the quilt again, you'll have to block it again. Once a wonky quilt, always a wonky quilt. Want to know how I know that?
