quilterscafe
I came across these books and was wondering if anyone has used them as a source of design inspiration for custom quilting designs. When I look at the cover illustrations they sure do remind me of some fancy quilting designs I've seen out there: 1.) Handbook of Ornament, Franz Sales Meyer http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0486203026/ref=wl_it_dp/002-4563596-6874417?ie=UTF8&coliid=I3RDACPV4ITB9W&colid=1IPHICG0F0UAR 2.) 2,286 Traditional Stencil Designs, H. Roessing (This one looks particulary good.) http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0486268454/ref=wl_it_dp/002-4563596-6874417?ie=UTF8&coliid=I22EPWCLBOOGXH&colid=1IPHICG0F0UAR 3.) Ornamental Borders, Scrolls and Cartouches in Historic Decorative Styles, Syracuse Ornamental Co. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0486254895/ref=wl_it_dp/002-4563596-6874417?ie=UTF8&coliid=I1NIN8GX6E0507&colid=1IPHICG0F0UAR 4.) 800 Classic Ornaments and Designs, Ernst Gunther http://www.amazon.com/Classic-Ornaments-Designs-Pictorial-Archive/dp/0486402614/sr=11-1/qid=1162923117/ref=sr_11_1/002-4563596-6874417 5.) 700 Victorian Ornamental Designs, F. Knight http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0486402657/ref=wl_it_dp/002-4563596-6874417?ie=UTF8&coliid=I1WQC9DYC4A4AF&colid=1IPHICG0F0UAR 6.) 1,100 Designs and Motifs from Historic Sources, John Leighton http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0486287300/ref=wl_it_dp/002-4563596-6874417?ie=UTF8&coliid=I1NNNMRM2HLW9U&colid=1IPHICG0F0UAR Kathy

Mary Beth
When I took Dawn Cavanaugh's classes she had books like these that where totally inspiring. I think they would be great designs to use for trapunto or maybe even just as designs in blocks and half square triangles.

quilterscafe
Thanks Mary Beth, I've seen a few reference citations to old out of print botanical studies and embroidery books that other quilters seem to have borrowed from for those fabulous floral/urn designs in their quilting. I'm not a free hand drawer so I need lots of help! I'll definitely give it a try.

ffq-lar
Dover Publications is a great resource for design ideas. Lots of coloring books, floral pictures, cartoons, animals, geometrics, art nouveau, celtic--anything you may need or want. Also they are very inexpensive. They have lots of clip art with CDs included. If you order more than $50 the shipping is free. I ordered 12 different books--some for $1.98-- and it was just over $50. Give them a peek online or order a catalog. I needed bird designs for a quilt and it was an invaluable resource. Give them a look. Linda R
quiltmonkey
This is an interesting topic for me right now. I am going to check into these books.... However, I have a question and would LOVE you all's advice on some DVDs or Videos that I should purchase for longarming so I can get an idea on developing skills. I am hoping I can get my longarm early next year, but I wanted to start watching the DVDs and videos now to kinda get me introduced to it. I did a web search and found DVDs and videos put out by professionals but I would really like your advice. THANKS!! Have a great day, everyone. Shana (in really chilly Alaska) Brrrr!! Mary Beth
Shana, I had the same question, and have been building my library every since. Do a search on this site for DVD's or videos. This topic has come up several times. I cannt recommend any because I have purchased 2 of Linda Taylor's and I have Designs with Lines, by Pam Clarke, but I have not had the opportunity to sit down and watch them. Good luck in your search.
