K. Szymaszek
I've been wondering how one decides which to use. My thoughts are: 1. money 2. If fabric is washed=puff, if unwashed=wool. Am I thinking right and is there any other criteria for picking one over the other? Thanks so much for your input. K
Neher-in-law5
I have had wool batts that are able to be washed. I used one for my grandson's bed quilt.
Corey
Puff gives definition just like wool, personally, I prefer wool, but it is very pricey. Corey
K. Szymaszek
Thanks ladies. I guess what I'm wondering is if you would still use puff if quilt top fabric is unwashed being that the top will shrink when washed but the batt wont. Quilting Heidi
I like both but wool is my favorite and it washes up just beautifully. For my customers it is usually cost for me I'll pay the difference.
quiltmonkey
I like both puff and wool. Another alternative to puff is hobbs poly down which is a nice batt too
Gretchen
Wool is my favorite but if the top is white, I use puff. Both give great stitch definition.
Sandra Darlington
I like both a lot. I have some customers who buy QD wool from me, but most like cotton or a blend. A few were put off by the price of the wool, but wanted the definition, so I suggested Puff and they were very pleased. My personal preference is a "natural" fiber, so I usually go with with either cotton or wool, depending on the look I am going for. Most quilts I like the celulite look after the are washed, which I get with both cotton and wool. If I don't want that look, I wash and dry my fabrics before cutting and piecing and use a poly (no shrink) batting - thick or thin.
