quilterbee1
Hello, have any of you layered wool batt over cotton?? Did you have to raise your hopping foot? I'm using W&N under Hobbs Tuscany wool and flannel backing...a little extreme for tn. but hubby is cold all the time. I've always used Hobbs 80/20 OR W&N but never wool.....especially wool over cotton . Hoping I DO NOT have to raise the hopping foot!! Scary... Thanks, Amie )
LibbyG
I've used dream cotton and dream wool together and didn't raise mine. It's really easy to raise the hopping foot if you have to do it. You just have to make sure it's centered when you tighten it.
yankiequilter
Amie, I used Hobbs wool over Hobbs 80/20 and did not have to raise the hopping foot. The quilting definition from this combination is beautiful. Please post pictures of the quilt when it is finished.
Quilting Heidi
I don't think you should have to raise the hopping foot but if you do it is very easy to do.
Guest Linda S
I've layered before and you shouldn't need to raise the foot. You'll have a bit more poof and it should be nice and warm. Actually, I like just the layer of wool. It ends up being fairly warm but it adjusts to your body temperature.
Linda G. Craig
Amie, I'm sure you will be fine. I too have used wool over cotton and never had a problem, quilts like a dream. Have fun and enjoy!
quilterbee1
Thank you!!! I read your responses and jumped on it. Glide thread didn't care for the thickness, but Perma Core hasn't balked yet )) Amie
Farmland Quilter
Thanks for this post and the answers I have a client coming tomorrow who has made a quilt as a gift and they want it as puffy as possible. I will offer the option of QD select with Dream Wool or Dream Puff to her.
Busy Quilting
I love using a wool cotton batting that Victorian Textiles make here in Australia. Has enough loft and you don't need to play with two batts.
