Allison S.
I'm new on the longarm. I've done pantos, including very dense ones. I did one small quilt using a ruler and doing stitch in the ditch. I have a patriotic panel quilt that I put a 6 inch wide border on in red. I want to challenge myself, but I don't want to ruin it. Any ideas on something I could do that wouldn't be too far out of my ability?
Quilting Heidi
How about stars and stripes? Stars are really easy. You can chalk them on and then fill in around them. You could also do loops to connect them instead of stripes.
Oma
That's a great idea Heidi.
cegates
Kathy at Tamarack Shack has a great tutorial on quilting a wide border. I haven't had the opportunity to try it yet but I love the way it looks. I'm not talented enough to post the link, but you can Google it. Busy Quilting
You may find that the wide border from Kathy's is originally from Raylene in Australia. http://www.pinterest.com/rayleneanne/summerville-quilting/ You chalk triangles along your border then fill in with straight lines going in opposite directions. chickenscratch
I have done several with really large borders. Here are a few ideas: 1. Mark the border off into alternating triangles and quilt stars in one and stripes in the next, etc. 2. Make two borders out of one border- divide it lengthwise and do two separate patterns 3. Do a really big feather or leaf meander 4. Diagonal piano keys
Allison S.
Thank you all! Great information. I did a wavy line and piano keys in only the bottom part. Added stars in the upper part. I'd like to try the alternating triangles too. I checked out Kathy at Tamarack Shack. I'm sure I'll find plenty of inspiration there in the future.
