Leigh
Broke needle and bent finger, the finger has been replaced , I have finished the quilt I was working on before breaking. The thread broke a few times. I have new quilt, new needle thread, keeps breaking every 12 inches put another new needle different thread still the same. Found a burr buffed and now breaking more loosened top thread the bottom is original. Any ideas??
RunningThreads
If the finger is in too far it will snag and snap the top thread. If I remember correctly the finger should be about one third the way in. Did you find and nicks on the hook assembly or the needle plate? Leigh
Yes there was a small burr and I buffed it the machine sews great when the top tension is too loose. As soon as I tighten breaks.
chickenscratch
If it sews great when the top tension is too loose try a few things. #1 a thread net #2 tighten the top tension one minute at a time - meaning just turn the top tension dial itsy bitsy teeny bits, not a quarter or half turn #3 check your bobbin tension- if it is too tight then it might be causing the tighter top thread to snap
jimerickson
I'm with Nigel, check the adjustment of the bobbin cage retaining "finger". Jim
Leigh
Thanks Jim Nigel Dawn and Teresa. The finger moved and missed a burr. Once again you have helped me through it.
