garlic mama
I have a APQS Millennium machine, that I have stitched with for 8 years. I have had very few problems. Today has been a frustrating day! The top thread was fraying, so I diligently checked for burs and sanded as much as I could with emery cloth. All seemed good on my sample swatch. I switched back to my client's quilt, and all hell broke lose... again. Big, looping skipped stitches and broken thread. This was after about 10 minutes of stitching problem free. This quilt is about 30 years old, and is probably broadcloth with a lot of sizing in it. Could this be the problem - the sizing- the broadcloth, the age of this unwashed fabric? Cagey
I suggest you read these blogs http://www.apqs.com/thread-breakage/ http://www.apqs.com/why-is-my-thread-breaking/ Hopefully they will help you find your issue. Cagey
garlic mama
Thanks for the advise Cagey. Tomorrow is another day... I will try to loosen the top thread tension, and switch out the titanium needle, and see what happens. This is one of those quilts that is going to end up costing me... Corey
Probability of the old quilt's condition, just like using unwashed batik backings & unwashed Legacy muslin give me problems. That is above & after after checking all the items to do before stitching a new quilt top.
Bonnie in Ok
Have you used the thread on other quilts successfully? I had an old cone that constantly broke I finally threw it away. Don't know how old it was or if this was the reason it kept breaking but when I put another cone in I didn't have any problems. Just a thought. InesR
I forgot until now, but the lady at the quilt shop told me sometimes they put the thread in the refrigerator when they have issues. I am going there tomorrow, will try and ask.
