ramona-quilter
This isn\'t MI, MN, ME, MO or MA. This is San Diego County California. We had a freak storm that caught all the meteorologists by surprise. It snowed. Not that heavy duty white stuff falling in NY. This was the powdered sugar on the mountains, no snow shovels required kind of snow. Really pretty. They closed the interstate and some other highways due to mudslides and ice. I think I\'m gonna take a snow day tomorrow. LOL.
rcck00
Wow, Linda, that\'s quite an event! Which interstate did they close? We are from El Cajon, still have a lot of family down there. Last I heard they were getting rain... Enjoy your snow day (before it melts away!!). ramona-quilter
They closed Interstate 8 east and west bound at Alpine Willows Rd to Pine Valley due to icey conditions. Same with Sunrise Highway. That was about 4 hours ago. 78 is closed due to a mud slide. Trees down on 163 near Balboa Park. I\'m staying home tomorrow. Update: California Highway patrol allowed folks on I-8 to shelter in place if desired. They also shuttled stranded motorists to the Golden Acorn casino to spend the night. They opened I-8 about 7 this morning but still no big rigs allowed. They expect I-8 to be fully passable abuot 10 when the sun heats up the mountains. You snowbirds, don\'t scoff at our silliness. We really don\'t know how to act when we get bad weather here. We are spoiled to the California Dream.
Mary Beth
See...that is what happens when you send me an email asking if I am sick of winter!! By the way it is about 12 degrees here today. Let\'s see, yesterday is in the 40\'s and within about an hour dropped to the 20\'s. I wonder how many times they have had to close your interstates due to snow! Strange weather we are having now.
Guest LA
I have NEVER heard of snow in San Diego, what a huge surprise that must have been! I love snow days, lots of quilting time all to yourself Linda, Enjoy it!

JenMcManus
Linda, Wow, that\'s unusual! We had that cold weather last week, and now it\'s 68 degrees. I\'ve been so busy trying to prune my roses and fruit trees that it\'s cutting into my quilting time. Jen
ramona-quilter
Jean, my snowman would have to be a mini-snowman. There is just not enough of the white stuff. Ramona is at 1,400 ft elevation. Ramona is about 22 miles south of Julian which is a small mountain community known mostly for their great apple pies and old gold mines. They are sitting at 3,500 ft and they get snow more frequently than people think. And all us flat-landers put on our chains and go up there to play in the snow. Mind you, this is not skiing-type snow. That is 2 hrs up the road in the San Bernandino mountains. It\'s pretty to look at as long as it is not in my driveway. I remember a photo that JudyL posted here last year as they were shoveling out their driveway for the umpteenth time in Novato, MO. Yikes. Mary Beth, you can just keep that strange MO-weather in MO. We like sunshine here. I\'ll be surfing later...(yeah,right)
rcck00
Linda, You\'ve brought back memories!! We used to love to drive up to Julian to the bakery up there. The apple pies were such a treat.... and the bread! Trees down on 163 -- that\'s probably a real mess. Those trees are huge! Glad you are okay, hope you enjoyed your snow day. jeanros
Linda, I know what you mean about getting a skif of snow, we live in a upper desert in Coloardo and get very little here. However, this year every time it snowed we got about an inch. I would have to really scrap to make a snowman. Jean Mille
