Flickr and Webshots - comment

Recommended Posts

I was admiring Jessica's fantastic array of photos in Flickr and really liked the layout and since Webshots has been driving me crazy by crashing constantly, I set up an account!

I've only done a few so far but it was really easy and the sizes are good...I'll gradually put all my stuff there then swap the link.

btw - Jessica's quilts are FANTASTIC!!

Hi Linzi,

Have you looked at the newer Picasa which now offers albums (free)

I've been slowly moving my images from Picturetrails to Picasa. For one thing there is no resizing involved, and the when you look at the Picasa images they are nice a large compared to some of the other image hosting websites.

Just a suggestion if you are still looking for an ideal site.

Here is just one of my albums I have started on Picasa.

http://picasaweb.google.com/angiesquilting/FleeceQuilts

I enjoy doing these fleece quilts as they are so practical, warm and fun to work on! No batting, and when Joanns has fleece kits on sale for 7.99 or less, how can I resist! I was inspired by another long arm quilter who makes fleece quilts- Vivian Love

http://quiltswithlove.blogspot.com/2007/08/purse-dog-wants-to-share.html

She has completed dozens of these on her long arm as gifts and for clients.

Check out her blog too. I love her little Purse Doggie!

Hi Linzi,

Picasa started offering "web album hosting" about 6-7 months ago, and I noticed their format didn't require any resizing, the text is much easier to add to the bottom of the pictures and of course when you click on an image it appears quite large on the computer screen.

So many of the other image hosting sites give small viewing options. Slide show on Picasa fills the entire monitor screen depending on how you cropped the pictures!:)

Hi Bobbette,

I looked at all your beautiful quilts! I especially love the Civil War Sampler.

I have a somewhat new passion for civil war print fabrics! So, Ioved looking at each block of your sampler. You do beautiful piecing. So precise.

I enjoyed your shoebox album too. Beautiful quilting!

Thank you for taking time to look at my quilts, and for the nice compliment! :)

Thanks Linzi! :)

I LOVE Flickr. It is really easy for me to use and easy for me to link the pictures with the HTML codes they provide. Also, there arent any ads and I think the quality shows enough on the different sized pictures that people dont have to go to the large format if they dont feel the need to...resulting in faster browsing.

Here are a couple of my favorite flickr contacts:

and her blog is VERY enjoyable: http://featheredfibers.wordpress.com/

There is also a longarm picture sharing group on there that we are trying to get started:

There are lots of quilting groups on there that share photos as well.

HAVE FUN!!

Obviously I have nothing better to do now that my big quilt is finished so I started a Picasa album too! The thing is that I upload photos in Picasa and actually it was EASY but I like the Flickr page so it looks like I will keep both until I have decided!

Here's a question... what setting should I have my camera on for clarity? It's a Casio elixim and I have set it to A4...it does not seem to mention pixels. I have a big storage capacity so can afford to take better quality pics.

Oh Angie, THANK YOU! I have to say though, I didn't piece the Civil War Sampler, it was done by the LQS, and I quilted it for them... I was pleased with the way it came out and I think they were too.

I can't wait to get more of my quilts properly photographed, (my camera is awful) and then I can load them onto my webshots album. I really didn't know what I was doing when I started loading them... not that I do now, but I'm trying to seperate them out into albums.

Jessica, I LOVE your Flicker site, great stuff! Such an inspiration to all of us!

Linzi - Love your website and your fliker and picasa! great job!
