Mrs.A
Hi everyone: Please weigh in on this...I'm working on an important pictoral quilt. There is a ton of open night sky at the top (solid black fabric) and I need to choose a fill stitch for texture. What is your favorite background fill when working on a LARGE area? I'd really appreciate your suggestions or even photos. Many thanks, Nancy in Tucson;)
KathyA
if I was working on a night sky I would do wind. It looks amazing as a texture to a sky. I've done it more than a few times and always get ooohhhs and ahhhhhs.
quiltmonkey
Nancy, I have used this type of texture for sky and water and it looks really nice. Strive for long, elongated horizontal lines and fill in with some shorter horizontal lines. I did my example in MS Paint so forgive the squiggly. It looks much better quilted! Consider using a metalic thread. Like metallic black or a metallic that has some dark blues and blends in with the background. You could also use clear or Monopoly. ffq-lar
Here is a border I did to mimic "Starry Night" by Van Gogh. Just close together in-out swirls. Do in black to match and just the movement and texture shows.
