JustSewSimple
I need to know what to quilt on this quilt. Any suggestions appreciated - please be aware I am still a newbe. I have posted additional pictures of what I was thinking (funny I practiced and then cut it out and pinned it to the quilt board)! Anyway, weight in and don't forget about how to quilt the ties. quiltmonkey
The flower looks great! Do that! In the background (bow ties) you can do meandering leaves and vines to give it texture. I would stay with white or cream thread for both flowers and leaves.
ThreadWaggle
I like your flower. How detailed to you want the bow ties to be. You could do a meader with leaves in the bow tie area, which would tie in with your flower in the white area.
quiltmonkey
Ditto what Angela said! (I think we typed at the same time)....
JustSewSimple
Hurray, I'm glad you like my flower! I can actually do it and it looks like a flower. I can do leaves too! Gasp!!! Should I try and do SID around each snow ball and bow-tie? I don't know if I can do that but I can see it would be good to do.
ThreadWaggle
SID would depend on if this is your quilt or a customers. If it is for you to practice on, I might SID around the white areas, but if I was going to meander with leaves in the Bow Ties I would not SID them. quiltmonkey
I would not do SID it will look absolutely beautiful without SID. (unless you want to torture yourself...then sure go do that SID!)
quiltmonkey
Me and Angela think a lot alike!! I like you, Angela!!!
JustSewSimple
No torture needed here! I'm going for the organic look! Thanks, guilty ladies! Sometimes in 2010 I'll post a pic of it finished!
Quilting Heidi
Now Shana SID is not torture! Personally I think all quilts should have a SID on them. IMHO it just makes the quilt prettier. I know I'm in the minority though! It would be a great quilt to practice on. I love your flower design. I think Jessica had a bow tie quilt in her flicker website. You might want to check it out. You can do this!
quiltmonkey
Hey girly... I didn't say i hated SID. I actually love SID but if she wants a gazillion starts and stops around each flower then sure she can SID. Shana,,,( who is currently torturing herself with SID on a quilt.... )
witha'K'quilting
Sylvia...I like the flower design...I would definitely do that. I vote leaves meandering in the bowties.
ThreadWaggle
SID definately has it's place and I have been doing more and more of it. But when I am doing an all over design I am aways afraid that I will end up with a pleat when I go over where I did SID, which is why I would not SID the bow ties if I was going to do freehand work over them. Shana, I like you too. Funny that we were thinking the same thing and posting at the same time. When I can quilt even close to what Heidi does I will probably do a lot more SID, but that is a long way off and while take lots of PPP. Her work is drop dead gorgeous!
