quiltingnanny
For a small custom wall hanging, how do you handle charges ? I have a min. of $ 30. Do I double [ or more ] for custom ? I've been under charging, I do believe. Thanks, Glenda
Stagecl
Glenda, I started at $40 for a minimum. Small custom was $70, but that was a while ago. I would figure out the price per inch for custom, then if you end up higher that is good, is you are lower...stick to the minimum on you custom price. Bonnie
How small is small....If your talking about a 24 x 24 then your it might a bit high for my normal price per square inch...because I old charge was about 2.5 cents and that would be about $14.50, but then I don't charge a loading fee or have a min. If they are use to a min. fee of $30.00 then charge that. And of course if its larger than my example then by all means charge more or whatever your fee is just don't give it away... Each area is different so you are going to get different answers. And I've been out of touch for awhile...so just guessing here...
quiltingnanny
Bonnie, it's about 24x24. Crosshatched, small swirls and outlined. Took forever. I do a lot of baby to lap quilts so I had to do a min. The going rate here for freehand meander or similar is .01. I wasn't going to load, furnish thread and then quilt a lap for 20.00. Thanks for your input. Glenda
quiltmonkey
Glenda, for small quilts with time consuming custom quilting like this, you might consider using a "per hour" rate. If it were me, I would charge minimum $25.00 per hour. Just an idea to consider...
quiltlover03
I have a minimum charge of $40.00. If the total fall under that amount, I charge the $40.00, if it is a custom job and goes over the $40.00 then that applies. I think it is fair and equitable. JustSewSimple
My minimum just to load a quilt is $50. So I do nothing for less than that; it's just not worth it to me. I agree with Shana if this is going to be time consuming, figure by the hour.
Primitive1
My minimum is also $50.00. I do get some who prefer that I quilt for them and don't mind the charge because it is time consuming to load the quilt and they like to piece and not quilt - so I am happy to help...but I have had some who are appaled that I would charge so much for something so small (which encourages them to do their own quilting and tells me that it would be best that way...) quiltingnanny
Shana, if I charged by the hour I would be SO rich ! I can't work at it for a long period of time. Hands and neck you know. I think I'm going to try to avoid them if I can. Thanks for the imput ladies ! Glenda
Quilting Heidi
I too have a $50 minimum. My custom starts at .03 but if I'm doing a lot of quilting in it then I go up to the next level or even my heirloom level. I made sure when I started this that I had a good price range. There are still times where I under quote but I get better and better at it. I won't give away my time for free. I just have too little of it as it is and if I'm going to work for free then I'll work on my own quilts!
