lovetwoquilt
Is there a trick when loading a table runner backing?? The backing is 22" wide, the runner is 17" wide and 90" long. The problem is: I always seem to get pleats in the backing with the backing this narrow and lose so much time frogging. I pin to zippers. sewlinzi
Have you tried loading the runner sideways (horizontally)?
nora123
I'm with Linzi on this load so the length of the fabric is running the same way and the leaders that way you only have 22' inches to clamp. Nora
witha'K'quilting
IF you do load it sideways...then you can quilt the entire table runner in less than 2 stitch paths. Much quicker and should take out the probability of getting any problems on the backing.
lovetwoquilt
Yes, I do load the runners horizontal That's why it seems that I am having trouble with little tucks.
witha'K'quilting
Try squaring the backing and marking the center of each edge...then pinning it on. I misread your first post..sorry. It is probably just off enough that it does not have even tension across the backing. When you put the runner on it...try pin basting it to the backing. Maybe this will help solve your problem. Quilting Heidi
IF you are loading it horizonatally then my guess is that you are off on your centers a little. Meaning that it is pulling slightly on the diagonal and giving you the little pleates. You should also try rolling it all up on the take-up bar and then back to the backing bar when you are loading the backer. That should help you get rid of the inconsistancies.
