boppinbrandy
I know you are supposed to echo Hawiian quilts but I wanted to see if any of you had any other thoughts...

Sandra Darlington
Humm...I'm not sure. Maybe, SID around the applique and add details if it needs to be anchored down more, then do a nice background fill, such as McTavishing. Sorry, I'm not much help. nora123
technically this is not a hawian quilt as they are folded and cut out as one big snowflake style piece and then layed over a contrasting color. This is a very beautiful quilt top. Nora

delld
Could do terry twist in the sashing. I think some type of fill would be nice like the others have suggested. You could do cross hatching but the block is pretty big. The border could to bead board, That would make it more traditional looking. I 'm sure you will make it quilting special on it! Neher-in-law5
Can you repeat some of the design elements from the applique as background. I'm thinking of the design on the blue that the background shows in (kind of like a fleur de lea) the blue design in the side. And then pick part of the red to use in those blocks. Or use them in opposite blocks from the applique that inspired them.

Quilting Heidi
Well you could echo, cross-hatch, McTavish or feather the background. Personally I think a pretty McFeather would look good. I think this is one of those quilts that will be gorgeous once it is quilted.

quiltmonkey
My first thought was to crosshatch following the piecing on point in the sashing. This design is simple and perfect for the simple block designs to set them off so elegantly! Sometimes less is more.
