lindasewsit
Ok....I am always forgetting how to do this!! I am SID in my borders and blocks. Do I SID BEFORE or AFTER I do the design in them? thanks! THe one border, I want to really hold down to make it straight...does that make a difference? anniemueller
I SID first to stabilize the border. Then stitch a design inside.
lindasewsit
Thanks, Annie! That is what I was thinking, but could not remember....
NollR
I SID first to stabilize the quilt. This way the lines, blocks etc. that are supposed to be straight and square stay that way. If you quilt the design first and then do the SID you run the risk of getting crooked blocks and lines! It's a pain to SID, but it does get easier with practice and lots of it! I have to go slow and use my Itty Bitty ruler to keep straight! Good luck!
Guest Linda S
Yep - SID first. When I'm doing a custom quilt, I'll often SID the whole thing, then roll back and start the design. Linda
Dave-Jane
What they said works for me especially when free floating!----Dave B.
rlhdesigns
I will baste my quilt down first when floating, then SID, all ruler work first, design work, then bckground fill.
Quilting Heidi
Linda, As everybody has said SID first then fill. If you are going to do all the SID the whole quilt and then go back in and quilt make sure you pin it well in the unquilted areas bigger than about 3". I normally try to SID, fill and then roll so that when I get to the end it is done but that isn't always possible.
Myrna Ficken
I pin baste and SID last. Just works better for me.
Sandra Darlington
I SID first and usually finish a row before rolling to the next section...but, not always.
Primitive1
I too do SID like Heidi, just SID the current area first, then the fun filler on the appliques, then roll forward so when it is done, it is done! I have not ever had a problem with anything shifting.
GrandmaLKB
I like to SID first then then do the design. I like to start in the middle of the row and work out left and right. That helps eliminate any "extra" fabric getting pushed to one side or the other and I can keep the top more even.
